Both sides have made shaky starts to the season, the Reds have only picked up seven points from their opening six games while United are just a point better off than their fiercest rivals having had the easier opening fixtures.
Anfield icon Jamie Carragher gave his opinion on the question, and in a surprise move, the ex-Reds defender predicted that United would end up ahead of his former club because of the sole reason that United are not playing European football this season.
Carragher maintained that Brendan Rodgers’ men are a better team than Louis Van Gaal’s but that the Champions League and a stacked fixture list may ultimately cost them.
