Don’t say we didn’t warn you; this is not pretty.
The South African skipper’s knee got lodged in the turf as a maul collapsed during South Africa’s clash with Wales this afternoon and twisted in a direction that a knee is not supposed to go.
A scream let out by De Villiers was audible for people watching on television and it was soon confirmed that the knee was dislocated.
Again, we should warn you before you watch the video below, this is not for the squeamish.
While De Villiers was being given oxygen to deal with the pain as he was stretchered off the pitch, it was good to see a thumbs up from the former Munster man and a standing ovation from the crowd at the Millennium Stadium.
