Video: Jon Jones suffers deep laceration above his eye in build up to UFC 178

Conor McGregor is also on the UFC 178 fight card.

UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones has posted videos of himself receiving stitches after he sustained a deep cut above his eye.

The seven time defending champion posted the videos to his Instagram account but he did not comment on how the injury occurred and simply stated; “The four stitches will be out in four days. The wound should be healed within a week. Time for me to start wearing my head gear #adversityisnothing.”

Jones (20-1) is headlining UFC 178 in Las Vegas on September 27 against Daniel Cormier (15-0) while Irish fighter Conor McGregor is also chalked down to face Dustin Poirier on the same fight card.

Although the injury is unlikely to cause any problems for Jones in regard to performing on the night, but if he was to pull out for any reason, we wonder would Dana White shift McGregor up to headline the event, especially with his uncanny ability to sell a fight.

Either way, September 27 is guaranteed to be a fantastic night for UFC fans with a stacked card on show and plenty of Irish interest to see if ‘The Notorious’ can continue his meteoric rise in the featherweight division.
