Video: Lads from Tipperary, Galway and Mayo start hurling in the middle of Times Square

Bringing a bit of Irish heritage to the US of A…

When Sky Sports won the broadcast rights for gaelic games, the GAA’s argument in favour of the deal was the money that it will bring our wonderful national games to a global audience. The UK’s response was one of confusion, excitement and amazement, so job done I guess.

The next logical step is to do what so many have failed to do in the past and that’s to break America. The GAA will be delighted because these three Irish lads have started the invasion.

Fergal Boland (Mayo), Jack Shelly (Tipperary) and David Burke (Galway) decided to pull out the hurleys in the middle of Times Square in New York to have a puck around. If you take into consideration that approximately 330,000 people pass through Times Square every day, hurling must have picked up a few more international fans.

We reckon it’s a first and thankfully the hurleys weren’t mistaken as dangerous weapons or the lads could have ended up behind bars.

They’re a trio of very wristy hurlers, we’ll give them that…

Hat-tip to David Burke who sent the video into us on Facebook.
