Brian O’Driscoll’s international retirement might be old news at this stage, but this is still great and will appeal to all rugby and True Detective fans.

Much as we love Brian O’Driscoll around these parts, it wouldn’t be stretching it to say that – through absolutely no fault of his own, it should be said – his retirement from the international stage following Ireland’s Six Nations campaign may have been milked just a tad.

As a result, we’re a little bit reluctant to revisit it again, but we were sent in a video this evening that we felt worthy of wider exposure; it was put together by Ronan Pierce Higgins and George Stevens and it’s the first combination of the gritty and brilliant HBO series True Detective and Irish rugby that we can certainly remember.

The parody follows the same format as numerous Downfall parodies and the famous one of Hank and Marie watching the DVD in Breaking Bad in that you can pretty much tailor it to suit any situation you want and no doubt you’ll see plenty of these types of parodies in the future.

In this case, Marty is not just saddened but visibly horrified by BOD calling it a day and judging by his own expression, Rusty had endured similar emotions upon seeing the great man’s interview following his final game in a green jersey in Paris.

We know how they feel.
