Video: Meet Robert Oberst; the strongman who eats 20,000 calories a day

We would live on his week’s shopping for roughly 6-10 years…

We would live on his week’s shopping for roughly 6-10 years… roughly.

JOE is no stranger to the gym and in fact, we like to think of ourselves as gym bunnies… although most people who know us would disagree.

Despite us jokingly saying that it is “bulking season” while tucking into a double cheeseburger, we do understand the need to eat correctly if you want to succeed in your sporting field.

Robert Oberst is a strongman and competes in competitions around America and the world. Basically, it means he lifts heavy things and he is incredibly strong hence the name ‘Strongman’…

Weighing in at 400llbs, that’s over 28 stones in old money, and measuring 6’8” it is safe to say that the American is somewhat of a giant and he eats just as much as one, as you’ll see in this video.

In the clip from our good friends at Munchies, Oberst documents his average training day where he has to consume 20,000 calories to fuel his punishing workout routines. The insane amount that Oberst must eat is put into context when he does his weekly shopping for himself and ends up spending over €400 dollars on groceries, as well as almost cleaning out the meat section.

Oberst is the American record holder in the log press at 455llbs, think of that as lifting himself plus a little bit more over his own head… don’t act like you’re not impressed.

Check out the video below to get an even greater insight into this fascinating story… although we have to say, we prefer checking in on Facebook at the gym rather than actually doing a workout.

Don’t judge us; what’s the point of going if you don’t check in? People won’t know when we’re working our guns…
