There are no fewer than eight former Irish internationals in here, although we’re not sure we’d agree with Paul McGrath at right-back.
Big Mick sat down with Paul Merson to pick the #One2Eleven of the best players he’s played with as part of Sky’s Fantasy Football Club and the final XI reads like a who’s who of great Irish players of the mid-80s to early-90s.
As is usually the case, McCarthy’s presence makes for enjoyable viewing and it’s great to hear some of his stories about former Irish teammates from probably the greatest era in the history of Irish football.
He also seems perfectly at ease in the company of Merson, who manages to deliver a golden line about Kevin Sheedy and Graham Rix having ‘left foots that could open a can’ straight from the book of Merse.
All it’s missing, of course, is at least one of the classic McCarthy clips that are obligatory inclusions in any story about Big Mick on this site…
