The Carlow team borrow liberally from their neighbour’s musical mastery.

Definitely in the top five of all-time GAA songs, Wexford’s run to 1996 All Ireland success was driven by The Wild Swans tune ‘Dancing At The Crossroads’.

Now, their next-door neighbours from Carlow are hoping to repeat the trick. Mount Leinster Rangers run through Leinster and into the All-Ireland club final is one of the GAA stories of the last few years and on St Patrick’s Day they will face Portumna for the biggest prize in club hurling.

And to commemorate the occasion they have produced a song that uses the great Dancing At The Crossroads as its template. By The Mountain Goats and called Dancing in Kilcoltrim, it features all the memorable bits of the original, with ‘What’s the feelin’ David Phelan’ replacing the iconic ‘What’s the story, Martin Storey’ line.

Your move Portumna…
