During stage seven of the Tour of California on Saturday, Spanish cyclist Eloy Teruel led the pack right up until the last lap of the race. Unfortunately for Teruel, he thought the race was over even though there was one lap to go, so he began celebrating what he thought was a stage victory…
However, no amount of cautionary shouts from fans, race officials or the commentators could get through to Teruel in time and he didn’t realise that there was one lap left until it was too late.
The rest of the pack quickly caught up on Teruel and he went from leading the group to finishing in 56th position, 17-seconds behind the winner, Peter Sagan from Team Cannondale. We feel your pain, Eloy…
