Video: Serious amount of slaps thrown during massive amateur rugby brawl in France

It’s like Mayo v Meath in the 1996 All-Ireland Final all over again.

It’s like Mayo v Meath in the 1996 All-Ireland Final all over again.

With cameras pretty much everywhere these days, players will do well to get away with throwing a punch in a professional game of rugby these days, but surveillance at amateur matches wouldn’t be quite on the same level.

There was, however, a camera present at the clash between French amateur sides Le Boulou and Salanque Côte Radieuse at the weekend, when virtually every player on both sides became in a massive brawl that was chaotic to say the least.

Four players were sent off for their role in the fight and having watched it, it’s hard to see how the referee determined which players were guiltier than the rest; the fighting style was definitely of the ‘keep your head down and keep swinging’ school of combat.

Another two reds were issued in a match that was as far from good-natured as you’ll see and, like we said earlier, brought back memories of this from nearly two decades ago…
