Video: Shane Lowry pings a beauty of a golf shot off a set of goalposts from the halfway line

Listen out for the classic ‘Fu**ing Hell’ shout straight out of Father Ted immediately afterwards.

Listen out for the classic ‘Fu**ing Hell’ shout straight out of Father Ted immediately afterwards.

Good and all as he is at golf, you can’t help but think that Shane Lowry would have loved an alternative career as an Offaly hurler or Gaelic Footballer, most likely the latter as his Dad Brendan was on the team that famously defeated Kerry in the 1982 All-Ireland Final.

Shane got to combine both of his passions at the launch of a partnership between the Golfing Union of Ireland and AIG earlier today when he pinged a lovely golf shot off a set of goalposts (we’re not entirely convinced they are GAA goalposts) in front of a fairly illustrious watching audience that included Bernard Brogan and Doug Howlett amongst others.

While everyone present was keen to vocally display their approval afterwards, one observer was so taken aback at Shane’s feat that he let out a line we haven’t heard since Hud Hastings and Fargo Boyle sought to ruin the King of the Sheep contest in Father Ted (you’ll need to listen fairly closely to hear it above, not so much below)…
