Video: Sound man Kevin Keegan sings ‘Happy Birthday’ to one of his biggest Irish fans

Needless to say, we ‘would love it’ if Kevin did something similar for us.

Needless to say, we ‘would love it’ if Kevin did something similar for us.

Kevin Keegan attracted a little bit of ridicule during his managerial stints with Newcastle and England but it’s easy to forget what a fantastic player he was in his heyday and in general, he comes across as a really nice chap.

Kevin showed just how much of a nice chap he is when agreeing to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ for a big Irish fan of his, Cathal O’Friel, when Cathal’s friend, Gary Brennan, ran into him at an insurance conference yesterday in London.

The lads grew up together on the Navan Road in Dublin and Gary decided to mark Liverpool fan Cathal’s birthday in the best possible way, by asking the former Anfield icon to wish him a happy birthday. Keegan went one better and sang it to him. What a champ.

No more than in his football days, Keegan shows himself to be a born performer and even though the video is brief, it’s not often a bona fide football legend makes a video wishing you a happy birthday; this will be one that Cathal can show the grandkids.

Hat-tip to Gerard McCormack for sending this one our way
