VIDEO: Sportsmanship at its finest in Cork as leader allowed to win race after being directed the wrong way

Carl Kinsella

You could learn a lot about sportsmanship just by watching this short video.

A video emerged early this morning from the finish line of Cork Business Houses Athletic Association’s recent six kilometre race – what you’ll see is not just your typical finish line footage, though.

As the leader approaches the finish line, he slows up and calls on the runner behind him – allowing him to take the gold medal.

The reason for this is that the man you see in second, Ken Devine, had been directed the wrong way and thus was forced to turn back.

Knowing he would have second had this not happened, eventual runner-up Bryan Crowley clapped Ken on and allowed him to take the deserved win.

The video has amassed a fair few likes on Facebook and plenty of comments in admiration of Bryan’s sportsmanship. Well done to both men.
