The supporters responsible for the extreme bunting display in Clare will take some beating, but this surfing Mayo fan just might the coolest GAA supporter we’ve seen yet.

We’ve already seen numerous cases of Clare hurling fans with a serious case of All-Ireland fever – let’s be ‘aving you Cork fans – and with a week’s headstart on either Dublin or Kerry, Mayo fans are determined to get the party started early ahead of their appearance in the football decider next month.

Immediately after Mayo’s victory over Tyrone on Sunday, Mayo fan Fergal Smith took to the water in Keel beach in Achill with a surfboard and a Mayo flag for the most impressive display of support we’ve seen for the men in green and red to date.

Appropriately, the background music was provided by Harry Belafonte’s The Banana Boat Song (Day-O), which has been adopted by Mayo fans over the years and you can decide whether that’s for better or for worse by giving it another listen below.
