As if Marty Morrisey’s status as a true Irish icon was ever in doubt.
JOE reader Aoife Dunne’s boyfriend Gavin recently celebrated his 30th birthday, and the man known as Marty to his friends – due to the fact that he possesses more than a passing resemblance to the great man from RTÉ Sport – had a Marty Morrissey-themed party thrown in his honour.
Better again, Aoife managed to get hold of Marty himself to record a birthday greeting to her fella, and he didn’t let her down.
What an absolute champ.
“Marty is an absolute legend and great craic, couldn’t believe his patience and generosity. He’s a true gentleman,” Aoife tells us.
Aoife also sent us on some photos from the evening.
While we can’t claim that Gavin is quite the handsome divil that Marty is, neither is 99.9999996% of the population.
“I say to Gavin, if we ever get married he may ask Marty to be best man,” Aoife adds.
We’re not sure Gavin should risk it.
