By all accounts, today’s meeting between Roscrea and Terenure in Tallaght Stadium was an absolute cracker and this was the first touchdown in what was an almighty upset in the Leinster Senior Cup.

Roscrea managed to cause a massive upset after taking the scalp of tournament favourites Terenure on a 13-10 scoreline, with a try from Rory Maloney proving to be the crucial score late in the second half.

Such a win looked unlikely when Jake Swaine put Terenure 5-3 ahead in the first half after a well worked try which included a delightful one-handed pass from centre Harrison Brewer in the build-up (see video above).

An excellent kick into the space behind the Roscrea defence eventually forced a turnover for Terenure in the opposition half and after the ball was recycled through five players, including Brewer, it was finished in the left corner by Swaine, who must have been mere millimetres from the far touchline when he grounded the ball.

Terenure later added another try through Matthew Madigan, but those efforts were cancelled out by efforts from Jacob Walshe and Maloney for Roscrea, with a penalty from Tim Foley also proving vital in the end on what was a memorable day for the Tipperary/Offaly college.
