We all saw the joyous footage of our own President Michael D. Higgins celebrating Robbie Brady’s late winner against Italy last night…
But Higgins was not the only presidential figure cheering on the boys in the green. Coadys Bar, Castlebar, hosted a very special guest last night in the form of American Vice President Joe Biden, who is currently visiting Ireland.
Biden’s mother’s maiden name was Finnegan which is more than enough for him to be welcomed into our inclusive ranks – and last night he showed his Irish credentials by going to a pub to cheer Ireland on with our Taoiseach and Mayo native Enda Kenny.
Biden, 73, was surrounded by Secret Service guards but a man by the name of Michael Baynes still captured footage of the esteemed politician entering the premises and pausing for a moment to watch the game before finding his seat.
