The young Dublin boxer passed away five years ago today.

Darren Sutherland was one of the most talented boxers to come out of Ireland, winning a bronze medal at the 2008 Olympic Games and building a fierce reputation before he died tragically at the age of just 27.

The likes of Paddy Barnes, Kenny Egan and a number of his former academic and sporting mentors speak glowingly about him in this documentary by filmmaker Kenneth Browne.

The affection with which Egan, in particular, talks about him would bring a tear to the eye as he recalls how the pair would “go to war” against each other in the ring, but hug afterwards.

We strongly suggest you put the kettle on and watch this excellent tribute to one of Ireland’s great fighters.
