Video: Wayne Rooney’s slightly awkward post-match interview on ITV last night

Wayne Rooney must have been in good form after a man of the match display last night but it didn’t stop him on rounding on ITV’s Gabriel Clarke in the post-match interview afterwards.

Despite one glaring miss, Rooney was excellent with two goals and an assist as United got their Champions League campaign off to the best possible start with a 4-2 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in David Moyes’ first game in charge in the competition.

Rooney’s goals also meant that he reached the milestone of 200 goals for Manchester United, something he was happy to discuss in a post-match interview with Gabriel Clarke afterwards.

Rooney wasn’t so forthcoming when Clarke asked the England striker if he was happy at Old Trafford and if he had asked to leave the club in the summer, first batting off a question with a cliché about ‘concentrating on his football’ and then abruptly repeating the cliché when Clarke came back with a similar follow-up question.

Given all that went on over the summer Rooney must know that he will be asked about his situation and his future over the course of the season and while his responses might concern United fans slightly, they won’t be too bothered if he continues to produce the goods on the pitch.
