Video: Wes Hoolahan nets a beauty for Norwich. Too little, too late for the Euros squad?

It will take a miracle for Wes Hoolahan to make the Ireland Euro 2012 squad at this late stage, but at least he’s making sure he’s still being noticed.

It will take a miracle for Wes Hoolahan to make the Ireland Euro 2012 squad at this late stage, but at least he’s making sure he’s still being noticed.

With James McCarthy playing for Wigan and Anthony Pilkington joining Hoolahan in the Canaries line-up, Mr. Trapattoni could well have been tuning into events at Carrow Road this afternoon and if he was, he couldn’t have failed to be impressed with Hoolahan’s early opener.

Attacking Simeon Jackson’s cross at the near post, the former Shels man beat a dithering Gary Caldwell to the ball and helped it into the far corner with the most delicate of touches to give Norwich the lead.

In the end, it was only enough to give Norwich a share of the spoils as Victor Moses netted an equaliser for Wigan, but the fact that he got 90 minutes was an encouraging sign as he’s not a guaranteed starter in Paul Lambert’s side.

Hoolahan hasn’t been involved in an Irish squad for a few years and barring a series of midfield injuries or Giovanni Trapattoni getting a brain transplant between now and the summer, he won’t be heading to the Euros.

Considering that he offers something different to every other midfielder in the Irish squad, will his continued omission be a big cause of regret in a few months time? Let’s just hope not.
