Ron Vlaar’s penalty against Argentina last night was saved by Sergio Romero, but this fan footage shows the ball almost roll back over the line after both players had walked away.
Had it crossed the line, and it only stopped short by millimetres, the spot kick would have to have been awarded to the Netherlands in the most controversial of circumstances.
Or would it?
This angle clearly shows the ball grazed Vlaar as he turned away, meaning it shouldn’t have stood.

Anyway, it’s all ifs, buts and maybes, but still so close to some real controversy.
