Have you been reading those Roddy Doyle books again?

All Irish people have their favourite moments from that famous Italia ’90 World Cup because those few weeks have become a vital part of our sporting culture.

Who can forget Kevin Sheedy’s rocket against England, Dunphy’s infamous pen throwing during the Egypt match, Niall Quinn’s sliding effort against the Dutch, Packie’s save from Timofte or Schillaci breaking our hearts?

Soccer Republic caught up with Roddy Doyle, author of arguably the best cultural document of those incredible few weeks, for a chat about the books legacy and they didn’t disappoint.

The talented writer read out extracts of his work and some of the footage from that famous summer in Italy is wonderful.

Take a look.
