As if the prospect of the Grand Final wasn’t enough, AFL fans were given an extra added bonus before the game today when they were treated to a special address by Ron Burgundy himself.
Hailing a day “when the nation stops to watch men with tight shorts and low IQs chasing someone called ‘Sherrin,’” Burgundy’s address was brief but typically hilarious as he apologised for not being there in person as a restraining order issued by a prominent Australian AFL writer prevented him from making the trip Down Under for the final, in which Hawthorn defeated Fremantle 77-62.
Explaining himself, Ron said: “I shouldn’t have suggested you interview me in my Jacuzzi, but that’s just the kind of man I am.”
It’s probably too early to get him to do it before the big one today but if somebody could approach Will Ferrell about the possibility of doing likewise before the All-Ireland Finals next year – he is practically Irish after all – then Great Odin’s Raven that would be sweet.
