Of all the national anthems at the World Cup – and there are some brilliant ones – arguably none gets their support going better than the Chilean effort and the version delivered before the clash with Spain in the Maracana this evening was particularly spine-tingling, even for fans with no vested interest.
For an insight into what it means to the Chilean supporters, you only had to look at how passionately it was belted out by one fan in the crowd who was spotted on television while Chile fans sang it acapella style, not to mention the guy behind him who was practically in tears throughout.
