This Welsh reaction to last night’s game will irritate a lot of Irish fans

We won't light up Russia if we qualify, apparently.

One thing is for sure, we light up any tournament we’re apart of.

As you can imagine, there were some sad and sorry heads in Wales this morning as the country realised that they had let the chance of reaching the play-offs slip from their grasp.

There was some talk before the game about the Welsh national anthem. Jim Beglin maintained that if the Welsh played with the same passion in which they sang ‘Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau’, Ireland were in for a rough night.

It was a rough night for the hearts of all Irish supporters but we managed to leave Cardiff with the win we so badly needed, and that was something that seemed to get under the skin of one Welsh publication.

An article in Wales Online talked about how this would not be the end of the road for the Wales team and that on the night, “[Ireland] bettered Wales here by claiming the one goal, pouncing on their one opening and stealing that one last shot at finals glory.”

The writer of the article congratulated Ireland and said that no one could begrudge them of the win before adding that their style of football is not pretty to watch…

“And it will jar those from the Red Wall who will watch them there. They know they are not a better side, that they won’t light up Russia if they make it there as Wales had done in France.”

If there is one thing you can be guaranteed about the Irish when they qualify for a tournament, they are always going to light it up in one way or another.
