WATCH: Brand new series about Irish Olympians ahead of Rio 2016 pulls no punches

Colm Boohig

There is no messing around in this clip.

Road to Rio is an Irish-made six-part series about 11 Irish Olympic hopefuls filmed over two years ahead of the Games in Rio… and it takes a no sh*t approach in the commitment required to make it at the top level.

JOE has been sent this extended clip by the man behind the series, Darragh Bambrick, and we’re glad we got it, because this looks seriously impressive.

Examining not just the sporting aspect, this observational documentary looks at the ecstatic highs and crushing lows, as Ireland’s medal hopefuls from disciplines like boxing, swimming, athletics and much more aim for the ultimate prize.

The series begin on Wednesday, May 11 at 8.30pm on RTÉ 2, and we can’t wait.

You’re going to want to check this out.
