Martin O’Neill’s Ireland are not the most inspiring bunch these days, so it’s a relief that Ireland’s young women are putting in a proper performance at the UEFA Women’s U17 Championship in Serbia.
In the opening game of the tournament, the team turned in a more-than-dominant performance — putting 14 goals past Albania without conceding.
Debutant Emily Kraft banged in no fewer than four goals and Ireland had no fewer than six scorers on the day, with a hat-trick for Emily Whelan, braces for Eabha O’Mahony, Jessica Ziu and Katelyn Keogh and one goal for Mia Dodd.
Ireland are currently sitting atop UEFA Women’s U17 Championship, and will take on Wales this Thursday. Needless to say, their goal difference is looking pretty good.
