Usain Bolt became the first man to win the 100m sprint at three consecutive Olympics last night.
Bolt beat his American competitor Justin Gatlin to the gold medal with a time of 9.81, making a burst towards the finish line halfway through the dash.
Bolt’s win last night secured him his seventh Olympic gold medal – allowing him to end his Olympic career at the very top of his profession.
Gatlin, in lane four, led for the first 50m of the race but Bolt’s quality soon shone through – and the iconic Jamaican sealed the win without ever looking like he was in too much trouble.
