He won’t be saving it.
Wayne Rooney is just one goal away from becoming Manchester United’s record goalscorer after he matched Bobby Charlton’s haul in the 4-0 FA Cup win over Reading.
The United captain has now bagged 249 goals for the club and Rooney will be aiming to break that record outright when Mourinho’s side face Hull in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final on Tuesday.
If he fails to score against them, there’s the small matter of a match against Liverpool at Old Trafford on January 15th. Would he just love to break the record against them?
Rooney’s goal on 7 minutes opened the floodgates against Reading, but some of the attention was taken away from events that unfolded at the full-time whistle when it appeared that the former Man City player George Evans snubbed Rooney’s offer to swap shirts, a story that the player himself denied on Twitter.

Despite Rooney’s record-equalling goal, the striker wasn’t too pleased with the following article that was published in The Daily Mail.
The print version of the newspaper were more congratulatory to Rooney, but they also included a small dig at his form.
Many congrats to @WayneRooney on equalling Sir Bobby's United record. pic.twitter.com/WGLtm5rKXK

Here’s Rooney’s reaction to the story.
I find it amazing that I equal sir Bobby Charltons record and this is a headline in the mail. pic.twitter.com/MXCs1HFooT
