With the Molson Canadian Beer Fridge drop happening across Ireland this week, so JOE has decided to take a look at our favourite moments from Canada’s national winter sport: ice hockey.

Ice hockey is a bit like the GAA of Canada, and it even shares some historical similarities with hurling. Everyone knows someone who plays the sport and during certain times of the year, usually around finals time, the entire country comes to a stand still.

While the sport’s origins are a bit unclear, we do know that it started off in Europe sometime around the late 18th/early 19th century. Unfortunately, there’s no one point in history where someone said, ‘Hey you, look at this incredibly manly sport I’ve just invented. I think I’ll call it Ice Hockey’.

However, what we do know is that the Canadians absolutely bloody love the sport and so we’ve decided to pick out a few of our favourite moments from the ice. Why? Well, you don’t have to be from Canada to be a Canadian!

1. David Ling ‘water skis’ behind Zamboni during delay

2. Ice rink covered in teddy bears following home team opening goal

3. Tom Preissing and Brian Campbell make peace, not war, while teammates brawl

4. This 9-year-old hockey prodigy is better than most NHL pros

5. Karma knows no bounds… not even for hockey fans
