World Cup Bet of the Day: Classy Costa Rica to pile on the misery for England

Despite two wins to date and some of the most impressive performances in the tournament so far, the odds on Costa Rica to make it three wins on the trot against England today are very attractive.

There are quite a few candidates for team of the tournament to date but if pushed, we’d have to go for Costa Rica.

Nobody gave Jorge Luis Pinto’s men a hope of progressing from Group D – in fact, most pundits predicted they would be mere cannon-fodder for the more established sides in the group – but here they are, ahead of the final group game, with qualification wrapped up already after impressive and thoroughly deserved wins over Uruguay and Italy.

They go up against an England side playing only for pride in Belo Horizonte this afternoon and while they are expected to rest a few players – Joel Campbell and Bryan Ruiz amongst them – they will be going up against a team low on morale and featuring only one player, Daniel Sturridge, who has started in any of England’s two games to date.

You’d expect England to replicate Spain’s efforts yesterday and put up a bit up of a fight before going home but with momentum behind them and having won over plenty of new fans thanks to their performances to date, we think that Costa Rica might complete the most unlikely hat-trick of wins and will be backing them to do so at the very tempting price of 16/5.

This guy will certainly be happy if that’s the way it turns out.
