The World Cup trophy lift ended up being a massive clusterf**k

Putin and his umbrella wasn’t even the worst thing.

Despite the fact that VAR yet again proved to be controversial, there’s no arguing with the overall scoreline as France were clinical against Croatia in an absolutely enthralling game that saw the World Cup trophy return to France.

The Croats played very well in Moscow but as we’ve frequently seen throughout the tournament, when the French attackers click, they’re absolutely devastating. Well, Giroud is a separate topic!

Despite the fact that Rakitic and Modric excelled again, Mandzukic’s own-goal gave Les Blues the perfect start but Croatia were jubilant after Ivan Perisic’s wonderful half-volley tied things up.

The penalty decision has been discussed already but there’s no denying the speed, precision and devastation that France caused on the break as the game started to stretch and spaces opened up.

A word of note for Paul Pogba’s raking pass which started the move for his goal and Mbappe’s superb finish to make it 4-1 – the PSG attacker is now the  youngest footballer since Pele to score in World Cup final.

Hugo Lloris will have nightmares about Mario Mandzukic’s goal but the comedy of errors didn’t stop there though because the actual trophy lift was a bit of a clusterf**k.

After years of hard work, months of preparation and weeks of intense matches in Russia, this was the moment that the world was waiting on. New champions and the second time in France’s history that they’ve lifted the World Cup.

A moment that dreams are made of.

The players were on the podium, the medals were all handed out and the adrenaline was pumping.

It’s just a shame that nobody told these two feckers to get a move on and stop ruining the shot that millions of people around the world were watching!

As for Putin and his umbrella, you have to admire the fact that while everyone else on the podium was getting absolutely soaked, he remained dry as a bone.

It didn’t go unnoticed.
