And although it may seem like a case of Ireland vs Russia, it’s actually a lot more complicated than that.
As we’re sure you’re aware, there are plenty of Irish people who have grown tired of McGregor’s antics, and would rather see Khabib win.
And by the looks of it, the reverse is just as true over in Russia.
If you had any doubts as to whether or not this was true, just take a look at what went down in a Russian Premier League game over the weekend.
Zenit Saint Petersburg were playing a league game against Anzhi Makhachkala, and the upcoming fight at UFC 229 was firmly in people’s minds.
Anzhi are Khabib’s local team, so Zenit saw this as a great opportunity to get one over on both the fans and on the Russian UFC fighter.
They chanted “Conor McGregor” at the fans as the game went on around them.
