Apple’s latest iPhone is facing two major crises this week

More bad news for the tech company.

Following on from a number of weeks of bad press in light of the news that they had been purposefully slowing down old phones in order to conserve battery life, which the current CEO has announced they are trying to put right, there is yet another series of hurdles on the horizon.

First of all, a study over at ZDNet discovered that the iPhone X battery doesn’t last nearly as long as consumer had been led to believe.

Apple claimed that the iPhone X’s should last 500 full battery cycles, but the person performing the study found indicators that those cycles may not last as long as you’d like:

I decided to check out how many recharge cycles my iPhone had been through in the less than four months I’ve had it and I was horrified to discover that I was already at 82, and that this had increased to 91 by the point I’d owned it four months (I got my iPhone 8 Plus on launch day). If I’ve gone through 91 recharge cycles in four months, that means that I could easily hit the 455 recharge cycles after about 20 months of ownership, and since that’s not allowing for any battery wear, I’m realistically expecting that the battery inside my iPhone to hit the 500 cycles mark in about 18 months.

That all may be a pointless issue pretty soon though, as Newsweek are reporting that the iPhone X may be about to cancel production on the iPhone X entirely, due to really poor sales.

As per their report:

“Rumors stemming from Apple analysts suggest that a reduction in orders means iPhone X production may cease as early as this summer, which would be the first time Apple has discontinued an iPhone before unveiling a new model.”

“A research note by analysts at KGI Securities, seen by Apple news site Apple Insider, estimated iPhone X shipments in the first quarter of 2018 were at around 18 million devices—a significant reduction on previous flagship iPhones.”
