One is available to order now, but you’ll have to wait for the others.
Google announced three new phones on Monday. The first is the more affordable Pixel 4a, which comes in at €389 and will ship later this month, although you can preorder it now.
Next is the Pixel 5, the company’s flagship phone, which will arrive later this year and finally, the Pixel 4a 5G, which will also arrive before the end of 2020.
But the main announcement is the Pixel 4a, Google’s attempt at stripping back some of the superfluous features and simply providing a phone with some essentials which work very well.
We’ve had our hands on the 4a for the last couple of days so we’ll have a full in-depth review up later this week, but our initial impression of the phone is very positive.
The 4a had been due much earlier this year but has been subject to delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and Google has also said there will be no XL version of the phone this year.
The design will see it step more into line with the Pixel 4 and will feature a 5.8in FHD+ OLED screen, with a hole on the top left for the selfie camera.
Google said it has taken note of consumer feedback from previous phones, including the Pixel 4, and has placed a strong emphasis on the battery life and the camera.
It utilises the same camera module Google used in the Pixel 3, 3A, and Pixel 4: Sony’s 12-megapixel IMX363 and the base model comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
The Pixel 4a camera includes features such as Live HDR+, dual exposure controls, Night Sight with astrophotography1, social share, portrait mode and Super Res Zoom.
In what is a rarity at any price range, the Pixel 4a comes with a headphone jack, which will likely be popular with traditionalists.
