We already thought they’d made an indestructible phone, the 3310…

HMD Global, the owners of Nokia, have launched their new Nokia 800 Tough in Ireland and for the clumsy among us, it might be worth checking out.

According to HMD Global, the Nokia 800 Tough (nicknamed the ‘Hercules of phones’) is built to withstand daily drops even onto concrete from a height of 1.8m, although it’s coated in an anti-slip coating and has rubberised edges so you shouldn’t be dropping it anyway.

Both dust and water proof (IP68), the Nokia 800 Tough is said to “withstand drops and extreme temperatures”, boasting “military grade MIL-STD-810G” compliance.

Similar to the Nokia 3310 (2017) and Nokia 8110 4G before it, the Nokia 800 Tough is a feature phone with a small screen and physical keypad, purposefully lacking full smartphone functionality.

However it does come with Google Assistant, WhatsApp and Facebook preloaded on the 4G LTE device, with the ability to download additional apps from an app store.

Some of the features include a loop designed to easily attach your Nokia 800 Tough to your backpack, wrist, or lanyard.

The Nokia 800 Tough’s built-in camera and flash let fans take pictures on the go, while there’s also a flashlight on the top of the phone.

The Nokia 800 Tough comes in Black Steel (it even sounds tough) and is available from Carphone Warehouse, Powercity, Harvey Norman and An Post for €129.
