A man in Australia thought he’d committed the perfect crime, until the phone he’d stolen snapped a mug shot of him

If you’ve ever had a phone stolen from you, then you’ll have no sympathy for this crook in Canberra, Australia, who is being charged with theft after the phone he stole snapped his picture and was reported to the police.

The owner of the phone found that it had been taken from his car, but luckily he’d installed an app that discretely snaps a picture of the person using the phone when they enter the wrong pin code to access the phone.

According to ABC.net picture was automatically mailed to the rightful owner’s email, and he passed it on to the police, who got an investigation underway. They tracked the thief to his home, and charged him with theft, as well as with damage done to the car when he broke in to get his prize.
