Red Dead Redemption 2 makes a record-breaking $725 million in its opening weekend

This incredible figure makes it the most successful opening weekend in entertainment history.

If you didn't spend your bank holiday weekend playing the new Red Dead Redemption game, you are definitely in the minority.

It is being called one of the best video games of all time, and the buzz surrounding it has been massive.

And the buzz appears to be justified...

According to Variety, Red Dead Redemption 2 has pulled in more than $725 million in worldwide retail sales and achieving the biggest opening weekend in the history of entertainment.

This incredible figure tops the highest-grossing movie in history. Earlier in 2018 Avengers: Infinity War earned more than $640 million during its opening weekend, which RDR2 has since topped.

But despite being able to boast this incredible figure, it's still not the highest-grossing entertainment launch of all time.

Grand Theft Auto V earned more than $1 billion in its first three days, but because it was released on a Tuesday it cannot hold the weekend figure.

The game is also currently the highest ever scored game on the PlayStation 4, with an average score of 97 on Metacritic, and the same on Xbox One.
