As everyone knows, 3D is “the future”, and the biggest technological breakthrough since we all had to rush out and buy a HD telly a couple of years back. 3D technology is so revolutionary that it can make millions of people rush out to Dances With Wolves: Blue Cats Edition, purely for the spectacle. And now electronics behemoth Samsung are eyeing up the final frontier of this 3D takeover – the living room.

The Samsung UE40B8000 is a 46” widescreen, 1080p, 200hz, 3D-ready, Ultra Slim LED TV and if of those terms beguile you, trust us – that’s means it’s good. We’re talking about the clearest, most dazzling picture here, all from a TV just that’s incredibly slim – just 29.9mm. Samsung are also boasting of zero glare from this model, perfect since the main draw of your new purchase is the exciting, mystifying future of 3D.

Quick, Glee’s starting!

This stylish telly also employs LED backlighting and 200hz technology to ensure with a blur-free, fluid picture. As for the lure of 3D, Samsung claim the effects are “life-enriching” apparently, words that makes us want to go home, down a few beers and slur insults at the useless HD box that’s been holding us back all this time.

To fully realise the potential of 3D however you’ll need to purchase battery-powered 3D Active Glasses, which Samsung are providing as a pack-in that includes two pairs of glasses and a copy of Monsters V Aliens on 3D Blu-Ray. Personally we think it’s a strange decision to try sell the benefit of your 3D-enabled TV without packing in the glasses for the desired effect – similar to selling a wonderful car without wheels, if we’re being honest.

Davids has been ready since 1992

Aside from your new Blu-Ray, you won’t find much 3D TV on the box just yet. Sky3D is not ready for a couple of months and regular roll-outs of 3D Blu-Rays are then expected follow. Although 3D sounds like a steep investment, it’s important to remember the leap to HD was quite expensive too and is nowhere near as revolutionary as the leap to 3D.

Nearly every electronics and gaming company is fully behind the 3D revolution, so questions of whether the technology is a fad are likely to quickly fade. Though some people may dismiss Samsung’s device as reserved purely for “early adopters”, 3D or not, we’re still looking at one the most state-of-the-art TVs on the market.

So is time to strap on a pair of glasses and marvel at the next giant leap in home entertainment? We say if you’ve got the cash or are desperate to bring the cinema experience home, there’s no better TV to dismiss the detractors and ensure that seeing truly is believing.

The Samsung 3D LED 8 Series, LED 7 Series and the LCD 7 Series TVs and the BD-C6900 Blu-ray player are available from retailers nationwide including DID, Harvey Norman, Power City, Expert, Euronics and Soundstore. 3D TV’s start from €1,299.99 for a 40” LCD.
