The definitive World Cup app

2010 World Cup South Africa - There's tons to choose from, but JOE has found the ultimate app for this summer's festival of football.

JOE

One of the only problems we have with the App Store is that for particularly big events, the store is swamped with copycat, low-tech applications which provide no real benefit to the end user. We understand that right now there are tons of World Cup apps to choose from but at JOE we’ve found the ultimate app for this summer’s festival of football – Infindo Technology’s 2010 World Cup South Africa.

Mobile developers Infindo have previously put forward plenty of premium sporting apps, covering everything from Serie A football for F1 racing – but none polished to the sheen that coats its World Cup venture. Simply put, everything you need to keep up with the latest news, goals or even the competition history’s is all contained in 2010 World Cup South Africa.

After undergoing a recent cosmetic overhaul, users are first greeted with the constantly updated “Home” section, with photos accompanying every story and a handy countdown ticker to the opening games above. From here you can click into the exhaustive news section, which is broken down between headlines, top news, photos and Infindo’s own diary of the action.

Instant alerts

Though not yet fully operational obviously, the “Matches” section will include live commentary, statistics, summary and lineups, as well as details on upcoming fixtures. The recently-added push notifications will also give you free instant alerts once a goal has gone in or any yellow and red cards have been dealt. Once the points start adding up you can then pop over to the “Stage” section which will show you the latest groups and help you map out the eventual stage 2 clashes.

Finally while you’re waiting around for kick-off you could do much worse than clicking in the “More” section – which is not as throwaway as it may sound. From here you can view daily updated videos and team profiles (including their road to the World Cup), get a little background on each of South Africa’s venues and trace back the tournament’s history with a well-researched “Hall of Fame” and dedicated history section.

If you haven’t noticed by now, we’re pretty excited about Infindo’s World Cup effort, which should only become even more essential once the vuvuzela’s get blown in the coming days. 2010 World Cup South Africa is a true diamond in the rough of sporting apps and can proudly hoist the trophy of this summer’s essential tournament companion.

The 2010 World Cup South Africa app from Infindo Technology is available to download from the App Store for a 70% discount of €1.59. The regular price is €5.49.
