This new security app will warn Euro 2016 supporters about terrorist threats

Hopefully, this app will prove to be completely useless.

The French Interior Ministry has launched an app to warn fans about impending security threats during Euro 2016, and it’s available in both French and English on iPhone and Android.

The ‘SAIP’ app is designed to send users a warning if a suspected terrorist attack is about to happen.

According to DW.com, ‘the app uses geolocation data to alert users only about security concerns relating to their area. It flashes a warning on users’ mobile phone screens if there is an attack close to their location or there are grounds for suspicion of an imminent strike or “exceptional event”.’

Alerts will appear on screen fewer than 15 minutes after an event has been confirmed by authorities. Users will also have the ability to forward messages.

France has been in a state of emergency ever since the terrorist attacks on Paris last November.
