The New Year always sees an extra spring in most people’s step especially when it comes to having more motivation to take up a new sport or return to the gym.

An Irish developed app aims to use the most powerful motivating factor known to man, sheer embarrassment and mortification amongst your friends, as a tool to help you finish that cycle or run.

ForFit is the first mobile fitness app that plans on using the idea of social media forfeits as a motivating factor to help users exercise with more regularity.

In a nutshell, run/cycle fast or else that picture of you falling on the ground with your arse in the air might just reappear on your timeline for all your friends and family to see.

So how does it work?  You can challenge yourself or your friends to cycle/run a certain distance/ route within a certain time.

Before taking off, a forfeit (Forfit) photo will be uploaded to the app which will then get posted to your/their Facebook wall on failure of completing the challenge.

Users have 24 hours from the time of accepting a challenge to finish it but don’t worry because any challenges that are rejected will not appear on Facebook.

If fitness and a bit of craic are’t enough of a motivating/entertaining factor then you should know that 65% of all Forfit fees are donated to cancer research.

While the app is yet to be developed, there’s a video below that explains it further and there’s more information on their website.

JOE now plans on instantly deleting all of our embarrassing pictures, there’s so many.
