Probably one of the most famous beaches on the planet, the Copacabana beach in Rio is a must-see tourist attraction for everyone. Situated in the South Zone of the city and measuring just four kilometres long, it is a hive of activity all year round.
All eyes will be on the football in Brazil this summer, but a lot of players have come through the Brazilian football system having started playing on the Copacabana beach. In fact, most years it is the official venue for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.
Hotels, restaurants, bars, night clubs and residential buildings dot the promenade along the beach. Copacabana Beach plays host to millions of revellers during the annual New Year's Eve celebrations. The New Year's Eve celebrations are the stuff of legend and in 1994, Rod Stewart played a concert there to a crowd of three and a half million people, which today is still the largest ever crowd at a gig.
