10 years ago today Thierry Henry scored this wonderful backheeled goal for Arsenal against Charlton

JOE was always curious about what it must have felt like to be an Arsenal-loving Irish supporter on that infamous night in the Stade de France during the ’10 World Cup play-off.

On the one hand, there was a certain incident (still too soon, always too soon) but on the other were all the fantastic memories that the French striker provided over the years.

Arsenal’s all-time top scorer was definitely the greatest player that Arsene Wenger ever coached and we could make a very strong case for him to be named as the greatest player that has ever played in the Premier League.

Henry wasn’t just a great goalscorer, he was a scorer of great goals also as seen by this impudent effort against Charlton ten years ago today.

Watch as the brilliant Frenchman picks up the the ball on the corner of the six-yard box with his back to goal.

What follows next is a supreme display of core and upper body strength as he holds off the challenge of Jon Fortune before he brilliantly backheels the ball past Dean Kiely into the bottom corner.

Sublime.

It’s been a good few days in terms of celebrating the anniversaries of brilliant goals scored by the Frenchman.

This unbelievable match winning volley against Man Utd was 14-years-old yesterday.

Magnifique.
