The Front Pages

Here’s how a couple of the main headlines read on some of the national broadsheets today:

‘Thousands of workers ‘imported’ despite job crisis’ – the Irish Independent.

‘No law against online piracy in Ireland’ – the Irish Examiner.

Just under 450,000 people are on the dole here in Ireland yet employers are continuing to import thousands of workers for jobs on farms, in hotels, nursing homes, takeaways and pharmacies.

The Indo reports that more than 6,600 non-EU workers have been hired this year so far.

Meanwhile, a landmark High Court judgment has found that laws to identify and cut off internet users illegally copying music files are not enforceable in Ireland.

Tales from the Tabs

Pop superstar George Michael has been released from prison and was in high spirits yesterday as he greeted the media after a 28-day stretch behind bars, the Sun reports.

The former Wham! star was banged up for taking drugs and then crashing his car.

The singer, 47, insisted he was “fine” and declared himself ready to face the world, saying: “There’s no one in the house – the minders have gone.”

The Sports Pages

The Daily Star is calling it ‘D-Day’ for Liverpool as the club’s future will be determined in a court case today.

The Royal Bank of Scotland have already put down an early marker by taking out an injunction that stops owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett sacking independent chairman Martin Broughton or any other board members ahead of the High Court action.
