22/09 Tonight’s Telly

Tonight Billy Connolly travels the US and The Simpsons' big screen adventure makes it to the small screen. We may have to explain that one.

Main Event: Billy Connolly’s Route 66, ITV 1, 9.30pm

The comedian begins this second leg of his journey in St Louis, Missouri, by climbing the Gateway Arch – which signifies the start of the American West.

Tonight he visits a wolf sanctuary, takes in a Civil War re-enactment, tries his hand at hunting wild turkeys and makes himself comfortable in the world’s largest rocking chair. His final stop is in Oklahoma City, where he visits a memorial to the 168 victims of the bombing of the Alfred P Murrah Federal Building in 1995

Movie Pick: The Simpsons Movie, RTE One, 9.35pm

Everyone’s favourite four-fingered family finally reaches the big screen for tonight’s movie pick. Homer unwittingly pollutes Lake Springfield, so the government decides to isolate the city underneath a giant dome. The Simpsons manage to escape and plan to start a new life in Alaska – but learn Springfield is about to be destroyed, and return to save their friends.

The world’s greatest yearly promotional concept continues apace as Laura Whitmore and Rick Edwards present the best moments from the third annual Arthur’s Day event from Dublin’s Olympia Theatre and the Guinness Brewery Hopstore, featuring performances and interviews with the stars.
