Although it came about because of a very unsavoury incident, arguably the quote of the year so far was included in a story in the Limerick Leader about a topless brawl in a Limerick village earlier this week.

As well as being a great source of regional news and information, local newspapers throughout Ireland are the best source of some of the bizarre occurrences that seem to happen on a regular basis throughout this country.

Such was the case in the Limerick Leader this week, where a story appeared about a brawl involving a pair of women in the village of Doon that escalated to the extent that both women ended up topless and a bra even went flying through the air.

According to The Limerick Leader, two women in their 30s, who were once the best of friends, started fighting outside school and child-minding facilities in Doon just after 9am on Monday and became embroiled in a vicious brawl that shocked a number of witnesses present.

“It was surreal, unbelievable,” one eyewitness is quoted as saying.

“They just went at each other. Biting, scratching, pulling hair, kicking, everything, you name it.

“They were beating the heads off each other. The next thing the tops were pulled off each other and then a bra went flying through the air.

“You would think that this would have stopped them, but not a bit of it, they kept at it.

“It wasn’t a few slaps either, this was vicious stuff. There was blood on the ground.”

More details about the brawl are available in the report on the Limerick Leader website but it is believed that the brawl came about not long after a fight involving two males connected to the women involved in Monday’s contretemps.

Another eyewitness not referenced in the Limerick Leader was believed to have made the following comment…
