There’s no denying that Robin Van Persie’s goal last night was something special, but it’s not out of character for the Dutch striker to grab spectacular volleyed goals, so here’s a few of our favourites from through the ages.
Arsenal v Charlton, 2006
This fantastic effort from 2006 against Charlton is pretty unforgettable, especially given he meets this on the run.
Arsenal v Liverpool 2012
He also grabbed a great volley from an extremely tight angle against Liverpool last season, which even the most ardent red would have to admit is a beautiful strike
Arsenal v Everton, 2011
He also grabbed another brilliant volley in the 2011/12 season with this effort against Everton, slamming it across goal into the far corner with aplomb.
Holland v Estonia, 2013
Here’s one he scored against Estonia on international duty for Holland, caressing this cross beautifully into the back of the net.
Manchester United v Aston Villa, 2013
And of course, last but not least, here’s last night’s effort, with a bit of Alan Partridge commentary thrown in for good measure.
