We’re only just getting used to the idea of a 3D TV, but it seems that Amazon, of all people, are working on a 3D phone.

When it comes to hardware, Amazon are probably best known for their work with e-readers and tablets, the Kindle being the obvious example, but it seems that they’re turning their attention to the smartphone market by working on two different devices.
According to the Wall Street Journal, one of those devices is a phone which will have a 3D screen. The screen would not require you to use glasses, rather it would use retina-tracking to display images layered on top of each other to make it look 3D, as they appear to “float above the screen”.
They also reported that they’re working on another smartphone, as we well as a set-top box for streaming movies and tv shows, and reportedly also an audio-only streaming device.
All of these moves from Amazon seemed to be aimed at moving more into the hardware market and competing with Apple, Samsung, Microsoft and Google. While the 3D smartphone seems like something that could give them an edge (even though HTC already released the EVO3D phone last year), the streaming devices could probably be dealt with ably by a decent app, we imagine.
No word on when any of these will be released, but there was also a warning that all of these projects could end up being shelved, as they may not prove financially viable.
