Another Wee problem and a few Seanie specials

Louth lads getting set to write Dear Derek letters

As we told you yesterday, some of the Louth players were not best pleased with how Longford whistler Derek Fahy refereed the match between the Wee County and Westmeath.

Peter Fitzpatrick saw two of his players dismissed before half-time and there was a general anger in Louth about Fahy ran the game.

One of the players dismissed, Darren Clarke, said this:

While Derek Crilly said this:

And Ronan Carroll said this:

Last year Wexford’s Anthony Masterson criticised the manner in which Fahy refereed Wexford’s Championship exit to Limerick, with one score ruling particularly contentious. The Wexford keeper’s comments, which amounted to calling Fahy a ‘bad referee’ saw him threatened with an eight-week ban unless he apologised, which he duly did by letter.

If the lads in HQ are to be consistent, a raft of Dear Derek letters will be the order of the day in the Wee County too. We’re sure Anthony Masterson will let the trio copy his wording if they want to.

We need to talk about Seanie

Once Seanie Johnston pulled on his helmet and ran about for 45 seconds in the Kildare hurling championship on Saturday, he has been the GAA story of the weekend. But the luck of the draw, or the fix of the draw as some are speculating online, has pitched him even further into the spotlight.

Now it seems likely that Johnston will make his Lilywhite debut in Breffni Park in Cavan.

And the good people at Paddy Power have pounced on the issue to capture the public interest. They now have a range of Seanie specials including his odds to start (2/1) and appear as sub (Evs).

There’s odds of 80/1 that he will outscore Cavan on his own and you can get odds of 500/1 that he will wear a hurling helmet, which might not be a bad idea if he plays.

But our favourite are the odds of 16/1 that Seanie kisses the Kildare badge. Surely he wouldn’t, would he?
